2002 abs light on

I have a 2002 Ford escape that the abs light has been coming on. It seems like you have to push brakes to the floor my wife says she hears grinding noise and then light comes on. after that brakes seem to be ok. our mechanic replaced the abs speed sensor on rear. the code he was getting was 1233. We are still having same problems.any ideas.this is a 4x4 if that matters

C1233 is for the left front wheel speed sensor.

Re: 2002 abs light on

It would need to have a scanner connected with datastream being run. That way what's happening during the problem will be shown on the scanner. There could be some debris in the wheel where the sensor reads the speed. Could also be other problems

Re: 2002 abs light on

Make sure that the shop that did the work, flashed the PCM to remove the 1233 code.

I can't recall if the 2002 models with the 4x4 system was integrated to work with the ABS system (electronically controlled). As rtg mentioned...best to get it scanned again. I've done it myself, hooking up the OBD scanner to get a code, reset the light, only to have the light remain on not knowing that I had more than one code stored originally.

Re: 2002 abs light on

There are some DTC on later models that can't be cleared by a code reader, scanner or even pulling the battery cables! They can only be cleared by the device within the vehicle that set the DTC.
