confused 2002 Escape Daytime Running Lights

Hi, everyone.

I own a 2002 Ford Escape XLT (auto). Recently, I noticed that my daytime running lights were not working. At first, I thought it was because I had something lying underneath the parking brake lever and it was raising the handle ever so slightly. They worked for a little while, but now they've quit again. Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Garth

Re: 2002 Escape Daytime Running Lights

The daytime running lamps (DRL) system consists of the following:

daytime running lamps (DRL) control module
resistor
relay
The daytime running lamps control module operates the low beam headlamps at a reduced voltage when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the parking brake is disengaged, and the headlamp switch is OFF. Although the DRL system uses the low beam filament of the headlamp, it has a voltage-reducing resistor to dim the headlamps for daytime operation. This allows the flash-to-pass function during DRL system operation.

The DRL module is located under the instrument panel on the driver side.

The DRL resistor is a part of the DRL module.

The DRL relay is mounted under the DRL module and is available separately.

Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 15 (15A).
Central junction box (CJB) fuse 16 (10A).

Re: 2002 Escape Daytime Running Lights

Any recommendations on where to start? And what kind of costs am I looking at for these parts?

Thanks,

Garth

This is a similar problem on Honda accords. The solution is quite simple and inexpensive, especially if you are handy with a light grade soldering iron.
