2002 Escape electrical woes

Hi;

My 2002 Escape (135000km) has developed a serious problem. It began earlier today when it refused to start; this lasted for a few minutes. Later, it did the same thing, and lasted for half an hour or so. Once it made it home, we found it would not start again. The problem is wierd...battery tests good, and boosting makes no difference. Power seems to be present at relay/fuse panel in engine compartment. Inside car, symptoms are not constant...interior lights don't come on, instrument panel is dead, power locks don't work, attempting to start produces no response except a faint blinking of the exclamation symbol and a faint clicking right behind the instrument cluster. At random, the LCD Shift indicator may become visible, the door ajar light may come on, the interior lights may start working, the radio may become useable, and all these thing will cease again just as abruptly. So far, it steadfastly refuses to start again.

Does anyone have any ideas?
