Re: 2002 XLS 2.0L I4 Maintenance Info

Good tire info. I haven't really had a reason to give it much thought.
The Ranger was easy - I just purchased whatever was available & closest to stock.

How about an engine oil question? As mentioned above, Ford specifies a good synthetic 5W-20. Can I get away w using 10W-30? (or 5W-30 if there is such a thing).

This question always seems to spark controversy on this forum. My opinion, if you live in an area that has mild winters, lows above 0'F, 10-30 will be fine if you don't want to run 5-30

Re: 2002 XLS 2.0L I4 Maintenance Info

We have Winter in name only here in Houston. I was thinking that a heavier weight could be used at least in the Summer & probably in Spring & Fall as well. Several years ago, it got hot in early April & stayed that way until Thanksgiving. misery defined. It's been quite a few months since I've done any serious engine oil research, but I kinda remember that one of the reasons for the Ford spec is for improved fuel economy. The heavier weight naysayers do have a good point in that the 5W-20 is what the Ford engineers & engine designers recommend.
