2004 Escape: Dies when idling

I have a 2004 Ford Escape. About a month ago, it died on me on my way to work. I figured it was the battery so I bought a new one, only to have it die on me again. The battery light was also on.

At this point, I replaced the alternator (thank goodness for Lifetime warranties). The car started and the battery light was now off, so I figured I would let it idle to let the battery charge. I left the car and came back to discover it had died again. I tried to start it after discovering it had died and it wouldn't turn over. At all. That is, until I gave it a jump start. Then, it would idle fine until the cables were removed and the RPMs would dwindle down to nothing.

I'm really leery of driving it to work at this time, as I work evenings and the past couple of times it has died on me while driving has been at night due to having to run lights.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated!
