Hi My 04 escape 3L just started acting up. It wants to stall when you select the A/C or the window Defrost heat. It sounds like a load is being put on the engine and makes some bad sounds. Could this be the A/C compressor or a belt problem?
when selected off it recovers.

It could possibly be a slipping belt or the compressor is on it way out. I would take it in and have it looked at.

Depending on the sounds I'd take it in for a quick diagnosis, too.

While it's in, I'd be sure to get a load test done on the electrical system (test batt/alt).

My 2003 Escape does this as well. I turn my A/C off so that I dont have to hear the noise. I am taking my car in for a Diagnostic test later in the week so I will get this issue checked out as well. I will post the results. Good Luck!

Problem fixed A/C compressor seized I just unplugged the compressor clutch. works fine now. No A/C.

If you need AC, check out Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market or Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto both are good sites. At least you were able to solve the problem yourself!
