Hello,

Recently, I have been problems starting my engine when my 2005 Ford Escape has been sitting cold for a while (more than 4 hours).

When I turn the key, I hear the engine starting to rev up for about 2 seconds and then it it stops. I continue to hold the key in the ignition position and then the engine starts to rev up again and finally starts.

Do anyone know why this is happening? Should I be concerned? Any suggestions on what to do to fix it?

What's the mileage on the vehicle? If it's been 30K since the last tune up with new spark plugs I'd take it in. A good shop can also test the starter, battery and alternator to make sure they're working properly.

My car has 28235 miles on it. I have never had any engine problems until now. I did recently change out the air filter (replacement in kind) in it though. And the ignition problems started shortly afterwards...

I went ahead and got my battery tested. It tested out at 12.6V and "Bad Battery" at 2 different Autozones. I asked the attendants why it tested bad and they couldn't tell me. I then went to Walmart and the battery tested out at 13.0V and 266 Cold Cranking Amps. My battery is rated at 590 Cold Cranking Amps brand new, so it was obvious to me what the problem was. I went ahead and bought a new battery at Walmart. The first time I started the engine, it sounded all right. I'll see for sure in the next several days. If you don't get an update from me, then assume that my car is doing good. Thanks for everyone and anyone who tried to help me out on this forum.
