I picked up my new Escape less than a month ago and almost immediately
noticed vibration (feels like all tires and can be felt in the steering wheel)
when I reached 55 mph. It eases at higher speeds but is very noticable
at 55-60 mph and no vibration at less than 50mph. I took it in to the dealer
and they road force balanced the tires. For the first 20 miles or so towards
home it seem fixed (a little vibration at 55mph - but I passed that off as
road surface). However, today its back - same vengance. I saw a post
on here imported from usenet and could not contact that individual (KEN).
Also there two vibration complaints for 2005 Escapes with nearly the
exact same details on NHSTA. I will be taking this back to the dealer -
but would appreciate any inputs anyone can provide or similar situations
with their results.
We have what sounds like the same problem with our 2005. It is a "rumbling" type of vibration that begins at about 55mph, peaks at just under 60mph,and is gone again at 65mph. The problem is worse in cold weather, and just about disappered over the summer. The dealer road force balanced the tires last week, but the problem is still there, and maybe a little worse. The dealer has now ordered new tires for it. We will see what that does.
Jim and Gloria - make them fix it or buy it back. It was a long process I went to arbitration and they said Ford shall buy back the vehicle as it is not "normal" operation.
How many miles did you have on your vehicle? I'm having a very similar problem the day after I had to have the transmission replaced on my 2003 Escape and of course I'm over 36,000 so the warranty is expired.
Our dealer put on a new set of tires...and the vibration was still there, as before, kicking in at about 55mph.
Next, the dealer force balanced the new set of tires...and the vibration was still there, but maybe slightly diminished.
That day, the dealer let me drive one of their brand new 2006 Escapes...and it had the same vibration, only more pronounced! And it had a different brand of tires on it!
Next he is going to try taking off the driveshaft to the rear wheels, and then driving the car to see if the vibration is still there without the driveshaft.
Then what? The car has 18K miles on it now.

How long are you going to wait before you have to sue them? Either demand your money back or tell them you are going to sue them, period. Evently the vehicle cannot be fixed. Get your money back and buy something else.
I am involved with a 2006 Escape 2WD that has been exibiting the same concerns since the vehicle was new. So far the dealerships have replaced 3 wheels (TSB 05-26-24), both front axles (TSB 05-10-7), road-force balanced tires, aligned vehicle and we have even gone so far as to get frame angles to make sure everything is true. All checked out good with frame angles so we finally replaced the tires, even to a less aggressive tread design in hopes to remedy the vibration concerns. Well.....it's still there. Any further ideas?
Last week the dealer removed the driveshaft and drove the vehicle and found that the vibration was still there. He called Ford twice that day and discussed the problem with two engineers. The conclusion was that it was either the front PTO (which runs the driveshaft to the rear) or the rear axle unit. The dealer decided to replace the latter (part cost is about $1600) and see if that fixes it. We are now waiting for the part to arrive.
Meanwhile...yesterday it was warm out and we didn't notice any vibration at any speed (up to 70) . This happened last spring right after we got the car. The weather got warm and the problem diminished and was all gone all summer!
Yesterday the dealer replaced the rear axle differential unit. We haven't noticed any vibration, but it is warm here in Wisconsin now, and the problem disappeared last summer too. So we will have to wait until September or October I guess to see if the vibration reappears!
