Question 2008 Escape XLT Auto

Been browsing the forums for a bit and had the luck that a couple of posts answered questions before I posted :)

In particular, the hesitation at 43 MPH scared the crap out of me. I don't like Ford's answer to it, but it saved me a trip to the dealership.

I have two other problems or questions I suppose:

The side mirrors make an ungodly howling noise at anything above coasting. Am I just really sensitive to this or have other noticed? The mirror assemblies are secure, but it almost seems like it passed aerodynamics when it should have failed :(

Second and surely stranger ... I had my golf clubs in the car over the summer and apparently a stray golf ball decide to find itself in the strangest location - under the center floor console. So now, it bounces back and forth under the shifter console. I looked for bolts and found four, I believe. Removed them and it still won't budge. I've searched all over for instructions on how to remove it so I can get the golf ball out with no luck.

I have had this Escape for two years now and love it to death. It was my daily driver and is now my wife's as I purchased a Mustang GT a few weeks ago (she's getting rid of her '08 Focus). I'd LOVE to get that damn golf ball out of there soon. It's driving her freaking nuts.

Thanks in advance.

I'd say take the penalty stroke and use a new ball!!

Seriously, how did you say it got in there?

Are you sure it's the mirrors? Have you tried folding them in and seeing if the noise goes away? I have some wind noise, but thought it was from a replacement windshield, the sunroof or even the luggage rack cross bars. I didn't think it could be the mirrors.

Hehe. I've taken many penalty strokes since then! What happened was the ball must have came out of my bag and rolled under the back and then front passenger seats. I park on a downhill a few times a month and it must have rolled up there, then settled back in after I leveled the car again ...

As far as the mirror noise - I'm pretty certain. This wasn't safe driving, but i was curious .... I've rolled the window down at highway speeds and put my hand in between the door and the mirror and the sound goes away. Remove my hand and it's back. It must be the air rushing over the top and side of the mirror enclosure.
