confused 2008 trans cooler problem

so I have a 2008 Escape withe a trans fluid leak, if you standing in front the leak is on the left side at the silver block on the side of the cooler. Now I've called around dealers for a replacement but ether they didnt know what it was or told me it was never made. Now heres where the problem is... I got an after market cooler but it inlet and outlet are the right side and that silver block on the left side is pumping coolent. WTF is up with that?? what else does that thing do?? I cant replace it because of that block. I have the FoMoCo part number for the part but can I even get it from them???
I hope some one knows what I'm talking about because I gotta fix this ASAP!!!

Re: 2008 trans cooler problem

Hey,
I understand your pain! I had what sounds like the same problem. I have an 08 escape xlt v6, it was leaking trans mission fluid from the front left side as well. They told me it was a defective bolt, initially i was told i would have to wait weeks as no dealer had the part - Not even Ford had the part anywhere in the country - luckily they got the part somehow and fixed the bolt within a couple of weeks.
Now im not sure about the after market stuff, i wouldnt mess with mine now as i want to keep the warranty but i hope this helps a bit??
Good luck!
PS. my dealer was Fullerton Ford, Somerville, Ford NJ.

Re: 2008 trans cooler problem

The same problem occured with my '08 Escape Ltd this past weekend. Apparently, there is a TSB that documents potential failure due to extreme temperature changes. The dealership confirmed this. Ford has also confirmed that the part is in high demand, and have placed an emergency order for it. For some reason though, they can't predict how long it will take to get this "golden bolt" shipped to my dealer. I'm astounded that with the supposed technology and sophisticated logistics available to Ford, they can't manage part inventories better, especially for a failure that occurs frequently enough to have a TSB associated with it.

UPDATE>> The Dealer advised today that the part (1 bolt) will arrive on May 3 (per Ford). Not sure I understand why it take so long to acquire and ship a bolt, even if it has to come from the factory where they make the Escape. I'd expect that it should be no tougher than grabbing one off the line and shipping it to my dealer.
