frown Air Conditioning Problem On Escape

Hi
I own a 2002 Escape (Australian model) only travelled 38k or 24000 miles.
Ford have just returned my vehicle to me after holding onto it for the last 5 days and attempting to fix an airconditioning problem.

When the AC is turned on to cool the vehicle it will cool the car down for a period of time and then just stop colling and blow ambient air. Ford attempted to fix the problem under warrany on two seperate occasions by:

1) Recharging the gas in the system
2) Replacing the condensor.

On this occasion where they had the car for a week, they replaced the compressor, an inlet tube and pressure switches.
We went for a drive today and the same fault occours!!!!!

My basic understanding of air conditioning systems is that there is possibly not much to replace?

If anyone could provide any suggestions or similar experiences I would be very greatful.

Greg

Re: Air Conditioning Problem On Escape

AIR CONDITIONING FIXED!!!!!

Well after a few more days with Ford and Ford contracting the job out to an air conditioning specialist, it was found that there was not enough air con gas in the system. Apparently the machine at ford which calculates how much gas IS IN the car's system and how much has been added was uncalibrated therefore underfilling my car.

After 4 visits regarding the same problem and the installation of a new AC system under warranty, turns out this was the problem.

Re: Air Conditioning Problem On Escape

Great to hear its fixed !

You right, there's not all that much that can go wrong with a/c. The final solution would have been to replace the gas cartridge/cyclinder and/or the condenser....

I haven't heard too many issues with our Escape's (built in Japan) - which is a good thing...

Have you owned your Escape since 2002 ? - if so, any major issues or anything I need to keep a look out for ?
(just wondering as I have had mine for 6 months (since Aug 04) - and so far its been great !

Re: Air Conditioning Problem On Escape

Hi

Since the air conditioning was fixed it has been fine. It blows so cold that I have not had a really good chance to test it because it really cools down the car now.
I had a shuddering in the auto matic transmission between 3rd and 4th gear. From my research this is a torque converter problem. It was fixed by ford draining the converted and reprogramming the EPROM with different shift points. It seems to have fixed the problem. Apparently if this does not work, they change the torque converter but im my cae the problem was fixed. Overall I am just happy that they fixed my air conditioning so I don't suffer in the summer.
