I am thinking of going next week to get my wife a new Escape.

She wants a 2010 All wheel drive, with V6 and auto.

Is there any serious issues with this that should steer me away.

I have owned a heap in the past I bought brand new, not a Ford, but still it left me leary of models I do not know.

The new six speed transmission for '09 has had left side half shaft seal leaks but it appears the '10 have right side intermediate shaft leaks. Just read today about a '10 in Canada going in the second time for the RH leak!

AWD is a loosely used term. The Escape is 4WD with the same system in the Edge and Fusion but call AWD. It's a sales gimick and should really be called A4WD or automatic 4WD because that's all it is!

My wife will not be using it as a true offroad 4 wheeler, just to feel better when it snows etc.

Update/correction: Canadian '10 owner was second time axle leak on the LH side not the RH side. Looks like the problem carried over from '09!

BCBoy, when it snows, it won't matter if she's on 2WD, 4WD, or AWD. She still has to stop. The OEM tires aren't really meant for snow, even though you BC guys get it pretty balmy compared to us here in Ontario. I would still switch to snow tires during the winter months. Another alternative (which is what I did for my wife's Winnie - I drive an Escape) is put Nokian WRG2's and I leave them on year round.
