Check Engine Light on 2002 Escape

I just purchased a used 2002 Escape XLT V6. It had almost 100,000 miles on it. When it rolled past 100,000 the check engine light came on. I pulled a P0430 code. I've read a bit about the catalyst system and have this question. If the front catalyst is bad, does it mean the entire manifold has to be replaced, or can the catalyst itself be replaced? Also, is there any chance that this is just a maintenance code to remind me that the spark plugs are supposed to be replaced at 100,000?

Re: Check Engine Light on 2002 Escape

There won't be a maintenance code for spark plugs unless they're not firing. Then you'll get a misfire code. The P0430 code means that the cat converter is shot as the O2 sensor detected that its no longer efficient. You won't have to replace the manifold.
