CV Joint or hub problem

My wife's '03 Escape 4WD seems to have a rumble/growl in the left front. While I haven't done any investigating yet am curious if this is a common or not unusual problem with these vehicles. Doing a search here doesn't seem to indicate any problem areas but I may not have used the correct search terms.

Does any one have a shop manual drawing of the left front hub/CV they could scan and forward here so I can do my search other then with hope and blind luck or lack thereof??

Thanks

Re: CV Joint or hub problem

Hi JDW, My wifes 04 had the same problem, turned out to be the wheel bearing, had the left one changed at a shop to the tune of $200.00, a couple of months later, the right side started making noise, I changed that one myself, cost about $70.00 for the bearing. Plus a 12 pack and a couple of hours of work, not a big deal but you will need a press, Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks - that's my guess as well, but did want to see if anyone else has had the problem. I think I'll take a look at it - and just replace the @#$% thing - both sides.
