Disable Smart Unlock feature

I work for a police department and respond to calls often. I live in Florida so it is extremely hot, so I leave the vehicle running while I attend calls to keep the A.C. on. I was recently given a 2009 Ford Escape. I have disabled auto-lock so when I open the driver's door, only that door unlocks. Due to the "Smart Unlock" feature once I open the drivers side door I cant use the automatic lock button because it goes right back to being unlocked. In the Ford Manual this is labeled as being a "feature" (to prevent you from locking yourself out I guess) with no method of turning it off. I can push the lock down manually and it stays locked but its very aggravating if I have to get things from the back of the vehicle. After im done I have to sit back in the drivers seat, close the door, lock all the doors, exit and then push the lock down manually to have everything locked up again. I had extra keys made that can unlock the doors only (not chipped of course) and was only provided the one key fob/key.

Re: Disable Smart Unlock feature

Have you called the Ford dealer? There are things that can be programmed with a Ford tool. We send some of ours , (Crown Vics) to get things changed for our officers. We only have an Escape for a detective and he's happy with the way it is so I can't say what they can change.

Thanks for doing the work you do.

Re: Disable Smart Unlock feature

This came up elsewhere. You can use the keyless entry if you have to lock a running vehicle. I think that I tried this back then.
