confused Escape 2005 struggle accel w/ OD on

We just bought from a dealership a used 2005 Escape V6 XLT 4x4... that had very little miles on it. We went on a 300+ mile drive and at mile 150 or so... we noticed (we couldn't miss it) that the Escape started accelerate and then decelerate fast. Like half a second it accelerated fast and half a second decelerated fast. So it felt like the car was shaking or slipping/sliding FORWARD and then BACKWARD for about 5-10 seconds. The sky was clear. The roads were dry. We were on the freeway when this happened. We were going between 60-70 MPH. It seemed to disappear when we went turned off OverDrive. We weren't going uphill or anything like that.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening? HELP!

One more thing... the deal said their technician said that this is a normal characteristic of a 4WD car. Is this right? The sensation is like I am bobbing my head lightly forward and back, forward and back... like listening to music but the car's ride is making me bob, not music. It didn't happen for the first 100+ miles.

Thumbs down Re: Escape 2005 struggle accel w/ OD on

This is not normal behavior for your car. Unless you paid extra for the "bobble-head" option Your car is still under warranty. Have them fix it.

Thanks for your reply. They looked at it and all they could say is maybe it was bad gasoline. I would take it more seriously, but it hasn't happened since the tank of gas was completely used then refilled with new gas.

I am keeping a close eye on it.

Re: FINALLY FOUND IT: Escape 2005 struggle accel w/ OD on

The problem was a bad spark plug coil. At least when the car's check engine light finally lit up, we brought to Ford and they said that would cause the problem too. That one or more plugs would not spark intermitently.
