What oil is specified in the owner's manual for the Escape in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Europe &/or elsewhere (ie, non-USA models & maybe not the Canadian models). I've read here n there that 5W-30 is one of the acceptable weights to use, but I haven't been able to confirm the info.

Mentioning the year & engine would be helpful. Or a link. Thanks.

I'm sure 5W30 is fine. In the USA, Ford specifies 5W20 for fuel economy reasons but that doesn't mean you'll see trouble by using a different grade.

Thanks. That's what I've read here n there. The best I can ascertain is that the improved fuel economyy is for calculating the overall Ford fleet mpg for the government regulators, but the actual improvement is miniscule to the single Ford owner. Someone from the UK contacted me on another forum, stating that the UK owner's manual for his Maverick (UK Escape clone) specifies 5W-30 but the oil filler cap has 5W-20 on it.

I find it interesting that when installing the fuel injectors the shop manual specifies using 5W-30 oil meeting the Ford spec on the injector o-rings.
Why not specify 5W-20? Seems odd.
