Question Faulty Timing Chain

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone that own a 2002 Ford Escape has had troubles with the timing chain breaking and causing extensive engin damage. I have and am wondering if anyone can tell me what causes this. I am a female and I think that the dealership where I purchased it is trying to screw me over. This vehicle was purchased used and has 61,000 miles on it, had 51,000 when I bought it. Please help me..........
