Hello all,

I just joined this forum as a new 2009 Escape owner and it looks great. I'm looking forward to sharing and learing as much as I can about our new Escape.

What do you guys think of Ford's Premium extended warranty plans? I'm thinking of extending the 36,000 mile coverage. I have no experience with Ford's products and particularily the Escape, so I don't know if it makes sense to purchase the extended covererage. My dealer's offering to sell me the coverage at their cost.

If the price is right I'd go for it. Toyota offers extended warranties on all their vehicles as well as a few other manufacturers. It brings better piece of mind and can come in handy. In some cases it can even pay for itself, especially if you can get it at cost.

Just be sure that it's comprehensive coverage, not just powertrain. Comprehensive covers the entire vehicle from the seat belt retract springs to a broken power seat motor. Vehicles aren't designed to be friendly when it comes to repairs. If I was offered a good deal on additional coverage, I'd take it.

When the first Escape Hybrid came out, I asked about the HV battery, and was told that they should be replaced about every 5 years, at a cost of $5000.00, I didn't get one. I have now gotten the 2009 Escape Hybrid, and was thinking about that battery, as well as replacement of the LCD screen for the NAV system. The manufacture's warranty warrants the battery in this car for 10 years or 150,000 miles, which I think is pretty good, so while I am thinking about getting the Extended, as you are, I am reading and asking all the questions I can think of, just my opinion. The Extended for this car is $1,500.oo U.S. for 75000 miles, I forget the years right now. Hope this helps.
