Ford recalls 322,000 Escape SUVs

Reuters / April 13, 2004

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 322,000 of its compact Escape SUVs to fix what the automaker described on Tuesday as an intermittent engine stalling problem.

Vehicles affected by the recall are from the 2001, 2002 and early 2003 model years and equipped with 3.0 liter V-6 engines, Ford Motor said.

The second largest U.S. automaker said the stalling problem tends to occur during vehicle deceleration at speeds below 40 mph.

Ford said it had received reports of eight alleged minor accidents stemming from the problem, three of which included allegations of minor injuries.

Despite the reports, Ford said engine stall on the Escapes posed "no unreasonable risk of accident or injury."

My first car was a 67 Mustang Coupe, 2nd one was a 67 Cougar XR-7, 3rd one was a 66 Mustang Coupe. Why did I get rid of these cars for ? I know why, because I'm stupid, stupid, stupid.

My next Ford.....

Re: Ford recalls 322,000 Escape SUVs

Ford Motor Company
Models: Ford Escape Years: 2001-2003
Number Potentially Involved: 321,903
Dates of Manufacture: January 2000 September 2002
Defect: On certain sport utility vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 engines, during decelerations at vehicle speeds below 40 mph, the engine could stall due to excessively rich fuel-air mixtures being sent to the engine. This could result in a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began on April 21, 2004. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.
