general fuel economy question

Hello,
I am considering the purchase of a 2010 Escape or Mariner 2.5L 4 cylinder 4x4. After test driving it (Escape), it seems to be a decent vehicle. Can anyone tell me what they are realistically achieving for fuel economy with this vehicle (4 cylinder 4x4) along with their general driving conditions (hilly, flat, city etc.).

Any information would be much appreciated. If you have other important information I should know please feel free to educate me - you're the experts!

Best Regards

Re: general fuel economy question

Here is what others are getting in escape 4x4 up through '09 if that helps.

Browse On-the-Road Fuel Economy Data 4WD

OOps link no good.

Go to fueleconomy.gov and hover over "Your MPG" and click "MPG Est. from drivgers like you" and then click the 2009 vehicle or show all . You will see what others are getting and what % city/hwy they drive.

Re: general fuel economy question

It might be a bit different for '10 as they changed the final gear ratio.

Re: general fuel economy question

I have a 2011 Marnier 2.5 4cyl with AWD. On the highway doing 70 + mph on the mountains of West VA I got 25.8 than 25.6 . The motor was working hard 4000rpm at times so I was pleasently suprised by the great MPG. In general city all around driving I adv. 21.5 MPG.

Note if you can find a Mariner on a dealer lot it could be your best deal. In October I recieved $6000.00 off the list price with no haggling.I did have a trade in and also recieved the high whole sale value.
