I own a 2010 Ford Escape and on occasions I put the keys in the ignition and turn the keys with everything lighting up but it is like the battery dead - no sound and no engine turn. I can try 2-3 times with eventually putting the keys back in and it starts normally. On occassions I have noticed when it happened that after removing the keys - keys out- all of the display lights you typically see when you start the engine are flickering. Any thoughts as to what this might be?

I am concerned one day that putting the keys in 2-3 times might not solve the problem. I am trying to find a day to get to the dealer but since it does not happen every time it is probably going to be one of those cases they can't fix if they can't see it????

It may have a code in the system. If it's under warranty, take it in and if they don't find anything right away, at least there'll be a record of the complaint.

Unfortunately it is not under warranty due to miles. I did take it in but as I suspected they need more to work with. During the meantime, the engine light came on as I was driving to the dealership. I was hoping it was related. Found out it is not - my luck. The engine code indicates an evaporator leak somewhere. The problem is somewhere and there is nothing indicating exactly where as a starting point. I decided to remove the code and wait until something more visible develops rather than chasing something that is not broken.

If you are carrying many keys or a speed pass on your key ring, you may be confusing the anti theft system that reads the security key. Odd things can happen.
