New Escape, Engine problems
Hello all, recently picked up a 2001 Ford Escape from my mom. It is an XLT with the 3.0 Engine. It has 180K on the clock.
History:
A few months ago the car started becoming very sluggish on hills, looses power and will barely idle, but then when you give it more gas will eventually pick back up like nothing was wrong. This happened for a month or so. Now my mom has given me the car and the other day Laura (my gf) was driving it and she smelled something very warm, the car started loosing power again. Then it aquired a loud air rushing noise under the hood (kinda like a wierd whistle). I came and looked at it on the side of the road, opened the hood and found a hole blown in the side of the EGR valve! Pic included! I know the vehicle has so called "manaverters", which are expensive! Im guessing it will need the two fronts replaced and the third after the y-pipe. This will be a 1k job all said-n-done. The vehicle shows no check engine light, however i read it with my code reader and pulled a code (cant remember what it was, wrote it down at home, something about EGR i think). Which is a given with the large hole in it now. Has anyone ever delt with this before? Where is the best place to buy converters from for a decent price? Thanks for your help!
