Question about 2004 Escape fuel comsumption

Hi,

I just bought a 2004 Ford Escape XLT from dealer three days ago.

When I left the dealership I saw the gas tank is full (from the Fuel Gauge), now I've driven about 120 KM and the gas tank is half empty (at least from the fuel gauge). It's really scary due to the thirsty for the gas.

Could anyone tell me what the normal fuel consumpation is? I expect 400 -500 Km if I fill the gas tank. Or does it mean I should as dealer chacking if there is something wrong?

Thank you!

Mike

Re: Question about 2004 Escape fuel comsumption

Mike, Being an XLT, I would assume its a V6.
The Escape's fuel consumption is very sensitive to how you drive - so go easy on the pedal.

Generally speaking, I get 13-14litres per 100km with my 04 Escape Ltd, but if I do a few days of heavy (lead-foot) driving, I can see it go up to 16-17litres/100km.

I very much doubt the dealer had the tank completely full, and the indicator or sensor may have been "stuck", so I would suggest taking your measure of fuel consumption after the next time you fill up.

Regards
James

Thanks James!

After several weeks average, it's about 13-14 liter per 100 km, looks normal now.

Re: Question about 2004 Escape fuel comsumption

I've got a 2005 xlt v6, and my 50/50 highway/city driving is a very consistant 26mpg or 10.8 l/100km. Nice crusing highway driving , i've been able to get 38mpg or 7.4 l/100km, at 108 km/hr. It all depends on how you drive, and how fast. I also use synthetic oil which helps abit too, over the long run. I find my v6 surpirsingly good on gas.
