So I know the subject of Mercon/Mercon V has been discussed ad nauseam around the web but I have an additional question. Ford sells a semi-synthetic transmission fluid as seen here: http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...ission%20Fluid

With engine oil, synthetic has some advantages over dino oil and I'm wondering if the same holds true here. There are also synthetic fluids available from Mobil 1 and others. Does anybody think using syn would cause problems with the CD4E in the Escape? Would it be beneficial? Any thoughts are appreciated.

You won't have any problems running 100% synthetic oil in the transmission. Ford sells and advertises what they think works BEST in their vehicles. Of course they'll market their own product wherever and however they can. I run Amsoil ATF in my '99 Taurus which calls for Mercon IV/V. At the time, Mercon was a semi-synthetic and the dealer just charges too much for Mercon V. Amsoil also backs their products with their own warranty. I've been a higher volume Amsoil dealer for nearly a decade and haven't heard of any component failures.
