Update: I have been informed by my local Ford dealer, subsequent to my third letter of complaint to Ford Canada Customer Relations, that a new part will be coming in April to fix the noise I, and others, have experienced in our2009 Ford Escapes with the 4x4 option. Apparently the part is a new "chain" for the transmission. The dealer tells me that the part is due to be available in April of 2009.
Thanks for the info. So it would require drop/teardown of the tranny to fix?
On my truck the noise is still here after 8000kms Still not huge or very disturbing, but still annoying.
I too am experiencing this exact same problem with my 2009 Ford Escape with 4X4 option. When I took it into the dealer they told me this was a "normal" noise and there is no fix for it. How disappointing to buy a new vehicle and have this issue. This is the first Ford I have bought and will be the last unless they come up with a fix.

Halleva-
Can you give more specific details on this? When I showed this to my dealer they said they had no knowledge of a new part or fix. Have you gotten your truck fixed yet?
Thanks!

I too have been to my Dealer with a complete printout of this thread. They were not aware of a fix as of yet. Since there are no TSBs on this issue yet, there is no across the board solution or fix...
I have just returned from my dealer with this same problem and they gave me a copy of a Special Services Message #597997 which was effective April 16th. It basically says that they now admit to the problem and will issue a TSB with a new calibration in 60 days.
Thanks for the updates! It's appreciated to know what everyone else is experiencing with this issue. I will definitely keep checking back with my dealer.
Thanks!
Hello again. After not hearing anything from the Ford dealer, as promised, by the end of April, I contacted them again. This time I was told that they do not have anything at the dealership level "yet". And, I was told that the "fix" is going to be a re-program of a computer on-board the car. I am prepared to wait until the end of June. By that time if there is nothing forthcoming I will pursue filing a claim with the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan.
I don't blame you. Any kind of noise on a new vehicle wouldn't be tolerated in my book. I can see a software fix helping out...but if the noise is more mechanical then I can't see a software fix helping. I'm sure updating the electronics (4x4/transmission) may help, but again, I can't see it solving the problem.
Time for an update. Today, June 26 2009, I called my local Ford dealer to ask if Ford ever got around to issuing a fix for this problem. The service adviser to whom I had spoken to before told me that Ford is issuing some kind of calibration adjustment to the transmission. She said that the local dealership was now authorized to do the repair which is intended to "minimize" the hooting/tooting noise. I scheduled my repair visit for Tuesday June 30th 9:00AM. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the noise is "substantially" reduced or better yet, eliminated! When I get my car back I will have full details of what they did and I will return to this post.
Right on. WIth any luck the problem will get resolved. If not...a future software download should. As much as I can say that preproduction vehicles go through extensive testing, sometimes, 'extensive' is never enough before the vehicle is given the green light for production.
