Rear passenger window noise/problem

Hi Everyone, good to be here.

My wife and I just got a 2009 Escape Hybrid Limited. It really is an awsome little SUV, but there is something that is bothering me. At speeds of 50 mph or higher with the rear windows rolled down there is a tremendous "thumping" noise that fills the cabin. It actually hurts your ears and causes the music from the stereo to distort. It'll be going back to the dealer but I'd like to have info on hand when I get there.

Re: Rear passenger window noise/problem

Does the noise happen all the time while driving, or periodically? I'd think it'd be suspension related if it has a 'thump' type sound. i'd take it in for sure!

tenchizescape is right. It can happen on all cars. Sunroofs are particularly bad.

If the rear are the only windows that are rolled down you are probably experiencing wind buffeting. The air comes in but has no place to escape and it creates turbulence. There is no repair or fix. Try cracking the front windows or gate glass and see if it goes away. I would try that first but still take it to the dealer to make sure it is safe and not something else.
