Question Rough Idle on 2006 Escape

When i am at a red light or stopped with AC max running the whole truck shakes and feels like a rough idle. If i am to place the it in neutral or the max AC off while in drive it goes away, and the rough idle/ shaking does not occur with regular driving just while stopped and in drive. I have replaced Fuel filter, oil changes regularly, recent transmission flush and has treated twice with fuel ejector cleaner without any changes. Have a 2006 Escape 4 cylinder XLT 2wd with 47,000 miles on it.

Anyone have any other solutions or have had similar problems?

Autozone will pull codes for free. That may help us get to the problem.

Re: Rough Idle on 2006 Escape

If the IAC is gummed up or dirty, it may not be able to move far enough to flow enough air for a bumped idle when using the A/C or in gear.
You can remove and clean them to some extent. Some say you can't get them clean, but I think there is a good chance to do so.

Re: Rough Idle on 2006 Escape

This video helped greatly i was able to easily get off the throttle body and clean it. This helped with sluggish acceleration. I was unable to get off the IAC. It was very difficult to reach the bolt with any tools i had. However the IAC seems to be working as when the A/C is on i can see the RPM adjusting back and forth. However i continue to have problems with idle being rough at a stop with a load on the engine

Any other suggestions?

x2^ Go to Autozone and have them pull codes. After the codes are checked, try it with the MAF unplugged

I don't know a whole lot about cars. What does MAF mean and how would i disconnect it to check? Why would this possibly cause my escape to act the way it has?

Re: Rough Idle on 2006 Escape

The light doesn't have to be on for codes to be present. The MAF is in the inlet tube from the air cleaner to the throttle body. It senses how much air is coming in and the PCM adjusts the mixture from the results. If you unplug it before the codes are checked. The codes may not be accurate.
