frown Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

I have a Ford Escape 2001. Its been a long time since I have notice that sometimes the car takes to much time to turn on. I change the battery in summer. Recently ( past 2 weeks ) the problem has gotten worst. The other day I spend an hour trying to turn it on. After that I took it to the ford dealership. But it did not happened with them. So I still have the problem and haven't solve the mistery yet

Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

I also have a 2001 Escape. Last summer it would not start and I had it towed and the mechanics checked everything. Incidentally, it worked fine for them everytime. The only thing they could see that might have caused the problem was a slightly dirty valve. It's been fine ever since, but last Thursday I went to crank it and nothing happened except the electrical system came on as usual. I tried again and it worked fine. Tonight it acted like it wasn't going to start. My local dealership closes early on weekdays and is not open on Saturday's so I am limited in where I can take it. I am hoping this is a small fixable problem. So far the 2001 has been a good SUV.

Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

i had a recent problem with my escape too. for a while, the battery lamp went on. so i had the battery replaced. it worked fine for a couple of weeks, then the battery lamp started lighting up again. i took it to the dealer and they told me it was the alternator. they've had similar problems apparently.

now i have to replace the alternator which is gonna cost an arm and a leg.

Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

Got my 2005 XLT(v6) around Sep/04 and first few months.. it ran like a charm. But after 4 months first problem started: Not able to fill gas. No matter which gas station I am at.. the pump would stop after filling .7~1.2 Gal of gas. To fill the stupid tank completely.. I would have to try like 8~10 times.

Went to dealership... they kept it for THREE days before they call and tell me that some 'sensor' needs to be changed and they would need another day to do the same... this was one Ford Dealership in West Dearborn; dont wanna say no names.

They did what they had to do, got my truck back.. no more problems and I am a happy camper. But wait a sec.. 40~50 days go by (less than 2 months) and same stupid problem. Take it back to the same dealership, they call me just before the end of the day to say 'everything looks okay, may be you might wanna consider filling at a different station'. And I was like WTF... I told the rep. that I choose to come see them after trying 5 different stations.

He was quite for 10~15 secs... and eventually says, 'we need to replace it again'. And I was not too happy... only good part is that I got my truck back the following day. After that, for about year and half... no 'major' problems. The tires had un-even wear.. checked wheel alignment and came out okay. Too much road noise from tires... but the alignment was still okay. Only option for me was to rotate them more often (4~5K Miles).

Come third week of Nov 2006, I am taking a break from work to take my sick wife to see the doctor. On my way back home.. I hear a little 'click' noise from the transmission and the next thing I hear is just plain engine noise. The kinda noise, where you have it in park/neutral and just floor on gas. No matter how much I push the gas pedal... it would not move!!! I tried putting in reverse.. and reverse worked just fine.. but it would not move forward! Tried from D to 1 to 2.. nothing!!!

Called Ford's roadside assistance who answered the call promptly and took all my info and promised a two to the nearest Ford Dealer. I had to wait for ONE HOUR before the two vehicle shows up to take the truck/me back! And this dealership was lessthan 2 miles from where this junk brokedown!!!

It was a Friday, so the dealership said most likely people will take a look at it on Monday. Waited all day Monday and finally I get a call from the rep at 6pm saying that their people were 'too busy' to take a look at it and they should be able to check it out Tuesday.

Waited all day Tuesday and then I get the call from same rep at exactly same time (6pm) saying that transmission has died, needs to be replaced! I was like.. they should be kidding me!!! It was bit over 2 years old with little over 26K miles and the transmission dies? I asked him the reason and he said that we will know once we take it off.

Heard nothing on Wednesday & Thursday, so I called the rep on Thursday evening to see what's going on. And get the reply that 'they were outta parts, so had to order'. Finally I get to pick it up on Friday, one full week after it died!

Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

Wow.. I have the same model and year you have. I had a spark plug coil problem and hopefully that is all.... but reading everyone's posts has me concerned. I wonder what percentage of Escape owners have had absolutely minimal problems... anyone know???

Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my 2005 Escape XLT ended up being a total Lemon! I filed Lemon Law in my state (Florida) and Ford "offered" to take me to court to settle...otherwise known as a scare tactic. I said no, we headed to arbitration, then all of sudden Ford decided to give me back my money (it was better for them to buy my truck back rather than have it labled a Lemon!). I had to pick my check up at the dealership where I bought the truck and Ford wanted me to sign all kinds of paperwork relinquishing them of basically anything. (FYI, this type of paperwork is illegal in Florida.) I refused to sign, they refused to give me the check and we headed into another round of antics by Ford. Long story short is that I ended up not having to sign any papers and got my check.

Now I drive an '06 Nissan Murano and I absolutley love it. It is sad to say, but I am done with Ford. I tell everyone my story and deter them from buying Fords. Even my dad who is a certified "Ford Truck Man" recenly bought my mother a new car...which was his first non-Ford automobile purchase in at least 20 years. Ford should really take a little more care in their cars and a lot more care into how they treat their customers.

Hope everything works out better for you all!

Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

TO ALL FORS ESACAPE OWNERS.

MY GIRLFRIEND RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2004 FORD ESCAPE XLT V6. SHE HAD IT FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS BEFORE IT STARTED ACTING UP. FIRST THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULDN'T SHUT OFF. THEN IT WAS THE MOTOR. IT WOULD JUST DIE ON HER WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE FACTORY ALARM SYSTEM KILLING THE ENGINE BUT FOUND OUT IT WAS THE WIRING TO THE COMPUTER. IT TOOK MANY HOURS TO FIGURE THAT OUT. WE FIRST STARTED BY HOOKING UP A DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE AND IT READ NOTHING. IT WOUDLNT START THEN THE CAR JUST GOT WORSE. WE WENT TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER AND REALIZED THE WIRES WERE CORRODID. SO HAVE YOUR WIRES CHEKED OUT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE MAJOR. WELL I HOPE THIS HELPS. Re: Starting Problems w/2005 Escape

I have the same problem with my 2005 excursion. Does your theft light on the dash flash rapidly when it won't start and only flash slowly when it will start? That's what mine does which tells me it has to do with the anti-theft system and the ignition kill switch. Dealer told me the alternator and batteries were bad. After they were replaced problem still persisted. If I find an answer I will send you an email and post it here. Please do the same?
