today rpm was stuck at 4000 rpm's for 2002 escape

hi there,,,was driving on the highyway at 80kms and all of a sudden rpm's stuck at 4000 rpm's for about a minute,,pulled off the highway,,shut ford escape xls 2002 automatic and than it was fine...what could of been the problem and should i call ford as i have warranty

Contact ford. it can be any number of things that caused that. From driver error to tranny issues to stuck throttle.

yea i agree there, get it back to the dealer and atleast have them look at it. that is really bad with an auto trans especially if it does it some time when you are in traffic.
never heard of this happening before but maybe the dealers have.

did u ever find out what it was becuz when i went out to crank my 02 escape today the rpm's went up to 3000 & 4000 all of a sudden and wouldnt go back down have no idea

It could be a sticking throttle plate or accelerator cable.
I read somewhere that there was a TSB for the cable - not sure what years, though.
The throttle plate could be carbon fouled. How long have you had the car & what octane fuel do you use?
