Upgrading the Escape Horn

Hi there,

I recently purchased a 2008 Escape, and love it! Well, with one minor exception - the horn. Anyone have any experience upgrading the horn to say, one from a Ford pickup? I don't want anything that draws a huge amount of current, just something a bit louder.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice...

As another 2008 Escape owner, I'm also not at all fond of the stock horn. Any suggestions for upgrading would also be appreciated. At least it's better than the beeping horn that I had on my old CRV!

Re: Upgrading the Escape Horn

I recommend the Stebel Nautilus compact air horn. This is actually a motorcycle horn but more than suitable for automotive applications. I (and many other Mazda MX-5 owners) installed one on my 06 MX-5. It saved my hide more than once. It is loud and has a tone similiar to an Italian sports car but it isn't what I would call too loud. It will be noticed, trust me. Look on the net for the best price. You'll be glad you bought it.

Re: Upgrading the Escape Horn

Check out Ebay. I'd get an airhorn. All OE horns are getting weaker as manufacturers find ways to cut costs. A good air horn with a mild tone (not sounding like a freight train!) will cost around $200 with air compressor and wiring hookup if you do the install yourself (which isn't hard). It'd make a worthwhile add on. The only problem is trying to connect it to the stock horn wiring so you can use still push on the air bag to set it off.

Have the 2009 Hybrid Escape, and can I say, the horn sounds like an old Peanut Whistle, perhaps good to honk at the kids when parked in front of the house, but nothing serious on the road! Have noted the comments, and am doing some looking, like someone mentioned, don't want the amperage draw to increase much, just the RESPECT level:)
