Used 05 Escape Ltd. EPA Mullet Man-U out there? - Ford Forums

I was going to buy a new Escape, but decided against it. Now I'm looking at an '05 with 22K miles, $17K. I have read different opinions re: gas mileage, most of it bad. Can't find info online at epa.gov. Any thoughts? Many thanks.

You called?

The Gov EPA rating is bullshit anyway, so forget that.

On a 3.0L V-6 with an auto trans, you can expect around 18-20mpg highway and 15-18 city.

A 4 cylinder gets worse mileage unless fitted with a manual trans and 2wd. You will then get 25 or more mpg.

I have an '05 Escape XLS 4cyl, 5-speed and I have gotten as high as 38mpg on the highway and I have been averaging around 32 to 34mpg in normal everyday driving conditions including stop and go traffic...I would think that the automatic transmision may drop those results by 1 or 2 mpg.

P.S...Love my Escape and the 4 cyl has plenty of power too, 155 hp...

So you've had no problems with your 05 escape? Thank goodness... reading these posts seem to make me think otherwise.
