What about these transaxles anyway?
Just got a 2005 Mariner and it's great car. It's still under warranty but getting close now; 300 miles to go... My questions are:
1) trans fluid looks dark red instead of the bright pink Mercon, so I drained it and refilled as appropriate. Seems to shift a little better now, but one more flush is probably in order. First, what the good way to get a complete flush? Second, what fluid have you seen work the best? Any additives like BG? Whrere's the filter at because all I saw was a drain plug and it only drained 3.5 quarts. And, what kind of life can I get with this tranny, as it will mostly be driven around town and down the highway.
2) The tailpipe constantly has this black soot coating inside the tailpipe, and also just outside. There's got to be some rich burning gas somewhere? There are no engine faults.
3) Found a noise in the front and they said it was a strut bearing. So, we'll see if that fixes that "loud knock" when you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, or left.
Thanks, and look forward to talkin' cars with you.
