confused What size tires can I use

I have a 2004 Ford Escape Limited with 83K miles. I need to replace the tires and I have a friend who have two like new ones that are P225 60R 16. The existing tires are P235 70R 16. My friend is willing to give me the tires at a steal if I can use them. Would this size tires fit on my vehicle?

The 225/60's would be shorter. They would fit your rim size but would throw off the speedometer if you mount them on the rear. If you have a 4x4 then all 4 must be the same size.

Re: What size tires can I use

I wouldn't go with a smaller sized tire. The main thing is the load the tires can handle. The tires will undoubtedly wear quicker too. Going to a shorter sidewall and narrower width will effect the overall width of the tire but should still fit on the stock rim. Performance will improve as your RPM's will be higher at all speeds by about 8%. Stock tires are 29.0" and the tires you've asked about are 26.6" tall depending on tread depth, brand, etc. Personally, I'd pass on the deal for safety concerns but it seems more than doable.
