Re: What would make IAC valve not work ??

i would love to know the answer if you have heard. I just had mine replaced today. My vehicle went haywire on me and was going 90 klm per hour without touching the gas. Shook me up lots. They wouldn't give any reasons why this happened but it seems to be a common problem with the Ford Escapes from what i have read. I hope the replacement one is an improved version.

Re: What would make IAC valve not work ??

well carbon gets built up on the screen of the valve and will cause improper flow to make your idle jump. i had to replace mine on my mustang and it smoothed out my idle. to keep the iac valve working to its full potential i suggest removing it and spraying down the screen with a little air intake/ carb cleaner which you can pick up at your local auto parts store. there is one thing you said you experienced a stubbling or shuttering effect while moving? that to me sounds like a torque converter shutter.

Yeah definitely clean out the carbon deposits in there. I don't know why but it seems like the Escape is more prone to buildup than some vehicles.
