XLT V6 4 WD engine noise

This month I test drove one with a VIN ending number in the 10000 series, and then one built later, VIN in the 80000 series. Both were new on lot. The later one (assuming VINs are somewhat sequential) was much quieter. Any one observe this ?

I'm sure it is quieter from quality improvements Ford has made as the model progresses.
