Question '00 Expedition Rear Wiper problem

I've searched this and other forums, and I suspect we are not the first to see this problem, but I can't seem to find any specific information.

We are the second owners of a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer 2WD. My wife enjoys it, and we now have over 70,000 miles on it.

She has described to me a problem she's having with the truck, and of course I am supposed to figure out how to fix it. ;-)

The rear wiper usually does not want to leave the parked position. She says if she has somebody "bump" the wiper when she tries to run it, it will work, but without the manual bump, the wiper arm will not leave the parked position.

We're obviously out of warranty, and I like to try to do some of my own repair and maintenance work.

Does anybody have any info on this behavior? Have you seen it or heard of it? Most importantly, can you guide me to a solution so I can try to come out as the Champion for my wife?

Thanks,

Re: '00 Expedition Rear Wiper problem

ahh a Texas Guy. I would look at the mount itself. Make sure that it is clean and lubed up for one. I have seen a many wiper stick just because it was dirty.

Does it look like the wiper has been manually jockied around? A car wash can make the functioning of the wiper worse. Getting it bent down just a little too far can cause it to stick. Seen that at the carwashes. Funny when the guys doing the wash try to turn it on and nothing happens, forgets that they turned it on run a rag over and walla movement. Just some general things. Hope that it helps out.

And No I do not own one. I just have seen these things happen to others.

Re: '00 Expedition Rear Wiper problem

I agree with lunatic that a bent arm or something along that line will make it stick but also the motor could have a spot on it like a window motor that just sticks every once and a while until it is bumped.
at that point the only permanent solution is to buy a new drive motor and replace it. i have also found that if you take the motor out and run it just a little (approx 45 degrees rotation) to make it start and stop at a different point once it is reinstalled most times the problem is solved.
