03 EB Expedition load leveling issue

I think we have all but a few available options, but the one that I we are having a problem with is the load leveling system upgrade. That $2k upgrade adds a nice ride to this vehicle, but we are having a problem with the air compressor kicking on after the vechile has been parked for a while. For example, we get home and park the vehicle. Within a couple of hours, the air compressor kicks on all by itself, with no key in the ignition or anything. It's really weird to be in my garage and all the sudden the expedition's air compressor starts up. It raises the front end and then shuts off. The compressor sound is loadest on the left front side. I've taken it to Ford twice, and of courese the dam thing won't do it while they have it, and they can't find anything wrong, no computer codes etc. They did inform me that the vehicle will level if it needs to, but only while driving, or right after parking, not 1 to 2 hours later. My guess is that I have a small air leak or something and the front end slowly lowers down, then the vehicle detects that, starts the air compressor and raises the vechile level again. The funny thing is that it only does it once in a while, and it has never turned on more than once. Meaning after it has turned on and raised the front end, it never leaks down and needs to raise it again, weird, so it may not be a leak?? I think given that the air compressor is not supposed to startup on it's own, when the vehicle is parked, I have a problem somewhere, but where. Anyone else have this problem?

I checked the TSB, and they do list a air suspension, repeat compressor drier failures, but I can't tell if that is related to my problem or not.

The sad thing is that I have to post this issue here because Ford service was not able to find anything!

Thanks,

Steve

You may have a short in the front leveling sensor. If you are concerned over possible leaks you might want to also take a bottle of soapy water and use it to find leaks in the hoses particularly around the fittings.

Re: 03 EB Expedition load leveling issue

i dont think your problem sounds like a serious problem.
i am guessing that after you park your vehicle as things cool off and any moisture in the compessor system condenses the dryer might be spitting off just enough air pressure to cause the compressor to call for more air. it doesnt seem like a problem that will hurt anything unless something gets much worse. or as lunatic stated it might just be a small leak around some threads somewhere that you may never find.
