'04 Navigator OEM HID woes

After troubleshooting my right headlight, discovered I need a new ballast. Also, due to my inherent clumsiness, I need a new low beam bulb as well. So the $64 question is, does anyone have suggestions for reasonably priced replacements? OSRAM ballast 831-10009-044 and OSRAM XENARC D1R 66052 bulb. Any advice would be appreciated.

If I were you, I would buy an aftermarket kit. This should come with 2 new bulbs, both ballasts, and all of the necessary wiring. The kit should be plug and play, so installation should be a breeze and you can just use your factory locations for mounting the new ballasts. Otherwise, it looks like ebay is your only other choice.

Re: '04 Navigator OEM HID woes

I'm pretty sure you can't just replace the bulb. The manual states:

Replacing HID headlamp bulbs (if equipped)
The low beam headlamps on your vehicle use a
high intensity discharge

source. These lamps operate at a high voltage. The bulb is NOT
replaceable. When the bulb is burned out, the lamp assembly must be
replaced by your dealer or a qualified technician.

But then again, I just recently got my Navigator, so I'm still learning all the tips and tricks myself ...
