I recently purchased a 04 Nav and the previous owner jammed the CD player. Now when I try to use the player it reads CD ERROR. I have tried removing the battery cables to reset the computer and this did not work. I was able to get a used factory replacement radio, but it did not come with any type of dealer code.
I have read on some other forums that when replacing factory head units you need a dealer code. Does anyone know if this is true? My biggest fear is that I remove the old unit and replace with the used one and I get stuck not having the code.
I have the same issue except mines an '06. I have tried to reset the stereo, I took the neg lead off the battery for about an hour, with no affect. I am not sure that it got a full reset because the radio presets are still there. Do I need to unhook the battery and leave it longer?
I have done the system diagnostic and it says no errors but then I get the "cd error" when I change to that mode.
I have heard that there are a lot of issues trying to get the THX quality sound from an aftermarket stereo. I would love to add the NavRGB 3.0-HDMI for smartphone mirroring and the backup camera input.
Anyone tried this or have any information would be appreciated.
To me, the THX system is really no better than any other "premium" or co-branded (starting with the first Delco/Bose systems in Cadillac Eldo's/Sevilles and Corvettes, which back in the early 80's, WERE quite a revolution in OEM audio and I'm STILL amazed at the sound and especially bass Bose got from I think, just (4) 4" drivers on the original ones) they're comparable to an average aftermarket system at best and the THX system is needlessly complex, if understand it correctly, having separate amps at each outboard speaker? (which the Delco/Bose did as well) really sucks vs IF your ONE 5 channel aftermarket amp blows up for some reason, just swap it out!
One exception for OEM sound is on several of the newer very high end systems, listened to a Bentley/Naim system in an Arnage once, WOW, as well as recently heard I think it was the Burmeister system, whichever one is the big $$ option for the newest S-Class sedan and equally-WOW!
