Hi,

I have the opportunity to purchase this vehicle for $3100. It looks to be in really good shape. It has 217,000 miles on it but he said he had the engine rebuilt at 175K (It's the 5.4 V8). However, he said he doesn't have the receipts any more because he had it done like 3 years ago. Is there anything that I can see that would give me any insight that the engine had indeed been rebuilt?

Also, it seems even with that much mileage, the price still seems good when looking at NADA and KBB (it's fully loaded). My wife would be using it for local driving mostly (our minivan's transmission blew up and I swore off minivans forever) but the extra room is needed because of the kids.

I owned an Explorer for a few years and loved it and my brother in law has the F-150 with the 5.4 and swears by it. Still, that mileage has me a little nervous.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

hey as with any vehicle with 200000 plus miles yuor gonna have to think about other maint. issue not just the engine i.e. tranny, transfer case, so on and so on. my 98 has 11700 on it and i have to replace the electronic control module and have a stronger tranny built for the engine. total cost about 4000 dollars. look over the vehicle well. as far as the engine work if he doesnt have receipts its not rebuilt in my book!!! thats only like 30000 miles ago should have something
