1999 EXPY multiple issues

I have a 1999 Expy with 150,000 Eddie Baur 5.4 litre engine AWD. I am starting to have some problems with truck and need your help. In the past month I have done ball joints, tie rods and altenator. The truck does have the load leveling system in it, but the compressor blew and now I fill up using the Spider Jr from American Air Suspension. I am sure a lot of you know about this product.

OK, so I am assuming that even though I have the load leveling suspension that there are shocks that need to be replaced, is this correct? The front is seeming a little bouncy when I hit a pot hole or bumpy road. Would this be just a regular shock for my make and model or do I have to get something special?

The second problem is that I am having issues with the drivetrain, now wether it is the tranny, transfercase or differential....I have no idea. I never owned one that went bad. When the vehicle is cold the problem is about 90% gone but it seems as soon as things start to warm up, the clunking starts. It occurs when the engine is under torque and accelerating and then when slowing down again. It is really I do a lot of expressway driving so once I up to speed it is fine. I know I have to take it in but I just dont want someone to tell me I need a new tranny when all I need is new fluids and such. Any ideas?

Re: 1999 EXPY multiple issues

They do have shocks that have to be for air suspension.

The noise would be hard to diagnose without hearing it. If the transfer case hasn't been serviced, that would be a good idea to see if the fluid is okay or any metal shavings show in the old oil.

Im back, $150 for oil change, transfer case and both differentials....not too bad. In the short drive back it seems as if it corrected the problem! I cant begin to thank you enough...I had the $2000 figure in my head for a new tranny. I pray that she doesnt act up once it gets warm.

Keep us informed as to if it did help. How did the transfer case fluid look?

Re: 1999 EXPY multiple issues

Ok so I will say that changing the transfer case oil was a huge success. I will say it correct about 80% of the problem. Now I just get a vibration usually at lower speeds. I also get a feeling like I just ran over a rumble strip every now and then that seems to be coming from the rear.

I have a couple of big trips coming up so I am a little concerned.

Re: 1999 EXPY multiple issues

What kind of fluids did you use in all of them? Does it have limited slip and if so, did you put the friction modifier and synthetic fluid either way?
