2000 expo did i mess up?

So i just purchased a 2000 expo 101k on it i figured meh barely broken in right? my cousins has somewhere over 200k on it. i get it and hit the freeway on the way home, somewhere between 60 and 70 if you hit the throttle more than 1/4 in it starts to studder very badly. this studder only lasts until you either let off the gas or hit the passing gear then it works fine. it doesnt show any signs of this at slower speeds (on city streets).

when i first felt it i figured it was just coils (mind you it didnt do this during the test drive) which i got it 2 or 3k under book so coils i can live with. my buddy then said he recalls on his 95 ford pickup he said you HAD to change the trans fluid every 40k miles or whatever or it would start acting EXACTLY like this when it tried to hit O/D or 4th. once you change the fluid he said it goes back to normal. i do plan on trying this but i wanted to get it out there and see if you had any ideas because im taking is on 2 hour trip Sat which will be 4 with the return and i would like to make it back... feelings? thanks guys!
