I've been told I threw a rod by a couple of dealerships and a friend who is a mechanic whom I trust. He told me it would cost almost $5K to get it repaired because & it would be just as cheap to buy a rebuilt motor vs. rebuilding my existing motor. The rod did not go through the block, it just makes that knocking sound.

My question is: My Expedition was a 4X2 Eddie Bauer Edition with the 5.4L Triton engine and I wanted to know if it was possible to buy a new motor from Ford or somewhere else and if so does anyone have an idea of what it might cost?

There was absolutely nothing wrong with my Expo prior to this and I put $1,600 to replace all the front end suspension items literally a month before this and I love my Expo and want it to last well into the future.

If it's not possible to buy a new motor does anyone recommend one rebuilder over another?

A Ford rebuilt runs around $4100. A used one can be around $1500 to $2000. Search here to get an idea what one would cost where you are. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market They usually kast a long time so a used one might be the way to go. They even show the mileage on them.
