The new 5.4L 3 valve has issues with injectors being stuck open causing the cyl misfire and a random missfire code. If it runs rough, smokes, and smells like fuel coming out of the exhaust, then replace the bad injector.
I have had intermittent rough running. I have, at those times, suspected it was transmission related, along with others. I also recently had intermittent starting problems. Mostly in the morning is when it would happen. Also it has been very cold here, around 0*. So thinking the battery I changed it. The problem did not go away. So the next thing I tryed was the connections. At the battery, the relay (behind the battery on the firewall), the starter & solonoid (why oh why did Ford put the solonoid down there!!!), AND, now here is the longshot, I cleaned the ground connections to the fire wall, which I belive may help all the crap they now put on cars, like sensors and whatnot.
My truck is running good right now, but time will tell........ Good luck to all.
i have a 2002 ford f-150, check engine light came on codes read 1131 and 1151 lack of upstrea heated oxygen sensor switch, sensor indicates lean on bank 1 and bank 2 can anyone tell me what this means or what to do, thank so much theresa
"Then there is the possibility of having a burnt valve. A burnt valve will cause your P0306 but generally you would notice a constant skip and it wouldnt be random."
What exactly is a burnt valve? How does this happen and how does it affect the engine?
I had a P0303 code after all kinds of misfiring but luckily it cleared on it's own somehow. But I've never felt the engine ran smooth or as well as my friends who have the 5.4 engine. I'm wondering if resetting the computer by disconnecting everything would help??????
I have an '03 expedition 5.4L Eddie Bauer and it has a misfire that originally happened only while pulling hills, but now it happens when ever it feels like it. Also, in the beginning the service engine soon light didn't come on, and now it comes on when the miss is real bad, but not when it is hardly noticeable. I wish this was a recall item, because I don't want to spend all the money that other guy has had to spend.
have any of you checked the vacuum hose connection to the IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve? My '98 EB Expedition was hard to start and ran really rough. I secured/sealed the hose to the IAC (with some RTV and a wire-tie) and the truck has been running great since. It has 120,000 miles and runs great just like the day we got it. I recently changed the spark plugs on it and have never had to replace a coil pack. For those of you wondering, the vacuum hose to the IAC valve is centered located as far back as you can reach near the top of the engine. It is approximatly 1/2" in diameter, and has a 90 degree elbow on it that looks similar to a small engine spark plug boot. Your hand will pretty much be touching the firewall when you get to it. You'll probably have to stand on a chair and lean over the engine bay to get to it. Make sure it's not loose. The intermittent rough idle could be caused if the hose loosens up during vacuum changes throughout the RPM range. Please let me know if this helps anyone out.
If you replace that many parts at once how are you going to know which one fixed the problem supposing the problem did get repaired. It's better to change one part and try it for a while if you have that option. I realize with computer controlled engines that are DTC that can be fixed by replacing several different parts, but it help when actually looking for the solution to replace parts one at a time.
I’m new to the Ford family. I bought a 97 f15 lariat with the 4.6 triton. I have a missfire in 7. How are the cylinders # . I thought from passenger side bumper back goes 1 2 3 4 driver side bumper back 5 6 7 8 . I changed the plug, still rough, checked to see if the plug was getting spark. Yes it is. Yes the miss is not there all the time, it started in a cold, wet day so I thought wires unplugged the hood bulb, and misted some h20 and saw no sparks. Anyone figured this mystery miss out yet. Thanks Anthony
OK...Sorry to bring back this topic but I have issues and the wife is wanting me to fix it. Started off with a P0307 error. Had spark plug and coil replaced. A couple weeks later P0306, same thing. Now a P0302 error. Come on. What are the chances the same thing is happening across all the coils every couple weeks? Anything else I need to check. (I wasn't here when the first two went. I was in Hawaii while she was in NY). Any help here?
