Re: 2003 Expedition missin on #6 and all others

That's too much of a coincidence. If you have all of those cylinders misfiring you would think P0300(random misfires) would go set too. Try checking the CKP output. It either reports to the PCM or ICM.

Crank Position Sensor. I assume this is a 5.4 w/COP. You'll need an assistant or a remote starter to crank the engine while you monitor the CKP output. It's AC. I'd pull the fuel pump fuse and run the engine till it's out of fuel before you get under there to check the CKP. Jackstands are a must and a flat level surface. Don't take chances. The CKP is located behind the harmonic balancer. A labscope or o scope would be best, but you can see a low voltage output with a DVOM set on AC. You'll have to backprobe the connector. Also try removing the connector to the CKP and spraying the jack and plug with electrical contact cleaner. I got a dead Lincoln Town Car w/5.4 V8 going this way. You have to look for something in common since your having numerous misfires on different cylinders at the same time. Think fuel or ignition.

Re: 2003 Expedition missin on #6 and all others

Swapped #2 coil (the last bad one) for #1 yesterday. Today got P0301 and P0316(Engine misfire on startup(I think. Can't find this one written anywhere). So the fault followed the coil. Replaced the coil today and cleared all faults. Now just waiting to see if another comes in. Thanks for the reply. I'll keep it in mind if another one shows.

Oh and I have a 4.6 not a 5.4.

Re: 2003 Expedition missin on #6 and all others

I had the same problem with my 2003 Expedition last weekend.
I replaced spark plugs did an oil change and it was running rough again?
Then I did some research on the internet, I came across some weblink.
That weblink was the answer. You need to check your vaccum line towards
the back of the engine on top. Way back by the firewall there is a L-type of
hose. That might look like it's caved in, then when you try to move it you will see it has a big hole. Try replacing that, it's a pain getting back there to get it out. Then turn your ride back on and see if that solves your problem.

Re: 2003 Expedition missin on #6 and all others

I have a fix for the coil problems. Its a little bit of work but I'm sure you will be happy.
before you do this its good idea to get a 16penny nail file down to make sharp edge at the point and use it to clear away stuff that might get in the way of a good connection at injectors and coil plugs.helpful hint use tie wire or string to tie stuff away so you can reach all plugs. And you will need to take injectors out it a good way to examine them anyway.ok here it is.

Re: 2003 Expedition missin on #6 and all others

I had the same problem on my 2000 expedition, if you replace the coil pack on cylinder 6 it will fix the problem, the only bad news that I have for you is that once you replace one of them slowly the others will start to die out and you will get the misfire on another cylinder until you replace all of them. Don't spend all the money to replace them all at one they run about 50.00 each, just replace them as you need to.

What do you do when you are getting the same cylinders misfiring? Bank 3 and 6 are throwing codes. we have replaced the cylinders and plugs last week and it is doing it again. Any help would be appreciated.
