2005 Expedition with electrical issues
I've got a 2005 Expedition XLT that seems to be having intermittent electrical issues. I've owned it over a year now. Twice this year it would not start and had to be towed to the dealership. Both times I'd turn the key to the On position, all the dashboard lights would come on, everything appeared okay, but when I'd turn the key further, nothing. No sounds, no noises, nothing. Battery checked out fine, it was like a kill switch was turned on.
The first time they blamed it on the remote starter I had installed 3 months prior, ripped it out, it started, they charged me $235 and I was on my way thinking all was okay.
Six months later (Oct.), it wouldn't start (both times were on the weekend) I had it towed to the dealership, they left my key in the drop box, and it started right up the next morning for the guys at the dealership. They kept it for a day or two to try to recreate the problem but of course it kept starting up just fine, and it scoped out fine. I picked it up and they told me to call them should it happen during business hours so they could come to it and put a scope on it.
It "almost" happened one day last week when I was leaving work in a hurry to run a business errand. I went to turn it over and nothing, turned the key back, turned it over again, nothing. Tried it one more time (thinking I don't have time for this right now!) and it worked.
Then, last weekend we were leaving to drive into town (12 miles away) and I knew I needed gas (needle was bet. 1/4 and E), got 2 miles from home and it ran out of gas! NO "Low Fuel Level" light, NO warning, showed I had 50-some miles left, just bam -- out of gas! Thankfully my husband was picked up by the local sheriff as he was walking back to the house. He brought 5 gallons to put in it and then put another 25 in it when we got into town (I thought it was only a 27 GL tank).
Ever since I've owned it, every now and then when I fill it up the gauge will show empty for a few days and then one day it'll register again. Last winter on a very cold morning the driver's side window almost didn't go back up, and I had the motor replaced thinking it was bad. Well this morning I it was 27°, I rolled the driver's and passenger's side windows down to clear them as I was making my way down the driveway and they took forever to go back up just like that morning I thought the motor was bad in the driver's side.
Does anyone else have these strange electrical issues with their Expedition, or is my just haunted?
TIA,
Paula
