Can anyone help me out a little on this please. it has the 5.4 in it. has all new motorcraft plugs. a while ago i had a check engine light and it was for a #5 cyl. misfire. replaced all plugs and the #5 coil pack and ran great. several months later it is idling rought again and if it sits for a while and you go to start it, it cranks alot before she starts. but after that it starts fine. vehicle runs good just driving it, just idles a little rough when you ate stopped. No check engine lights at this time. Has there been issues with the fuel pumps or injectors on these motors? any help is greatly appreciated. also if it is a injector or fuel pump problem for the hard start , will my powertrain cover this. vehicle has 66,000 miles.

Hey man I feel your pain, I have had exactly the same issues, miss fire on #1, then #5 then #6 and keeps coming back for no reason and no pattern ??

I have a 2005 navi with the same engine, I have changed, coils, plugs, and now even changed the lash adjusters in both banks, I still have a louder than average ticking and a rough idle and occasionaly I get a miss fire when cruising.

But someone has just given me a copy of a TSB from FORD for the 2005 edition 5.4 3v, and there is an extended warranty to 120,000 miles regardless of ownership on the fuel injectors. Apparantly they can stick open or closed and FORD has honoured the replacement and any work caused by these.

I live in the UK and have been working with FORD UK CRC and all is being resolved as we speak, so might be an idea contacting your local ford dealer and mentioning the TSB.
