has anyone had any issues with the radio and ac controls on the sterring wheel not working? How hard is it to replace yourself?

I just bought a 03 Expedition and the steering wheel controls on the right only worked slightly off and on and the cruise control on the left didn't work at all. I called my Ford dealership and they wanted $270 to replace the part.
I ended up taking it back to the place I bought it from (not Ford) and they put the part in in 5 minutes with a screw driver (for free- although they did have to purchase the ford part).
