can i run my 02 expedition 4.6L on 87 octane?

a guy from autozone told me, that the gas is way to dirty for my expo, is he right? it says 87 in the manual right?

I don't know what it says in your manual. However, running lower octane gas will not persay harm your engine. Their is an article in Car and Driver this month discussing the issue. Most newer cars have computers that will compensate for lower octane gas, and retard the timing to keep detonation from occuring. Will it cause greater buildups on your valves and injectors? Probably. Could that in the long run cause you problems? Sure. What would I and the rest of the remotely mechanically inclined do? Run 91 at least

Save yourself a lot of money and stick with the 87 octane. I have had 4 Expys to date and ran 87 in all of them as the manual recommends.

This has been talked about many times in many places.

I never had a fuel related problem.

In our Continental it recommends high test so thats what we use. Then again that's a higher compression engine with 4 valves per cylinder rather than two.
